I never like to refer to New Zealand as 'paradise' when doing my seminars overseas about migration to New Zealand as it can sound glib and I don't like to be seen to be 'selling' this country. We are in the business of helping those who qualify to live in New Zealand, have thought through the risk and the rewards and who have made the decision on their own.
I am however aware that to many people who move here paradise is the word they use to describe it. British based Natwest International surveyed 2000 Britons who had recently emigrated to 12 countries and New Zealand was described as 'paradise' by those looking for a warmer climate and a cheaper cost of living. This moved New Zealand into top spot in this years survey, overtaking Canada. Other factors which appealed included the 'lowest residential property prices in the developed world, lower taxes, less stress and a better quality of life'. The respondents overwhelmingly felt they were living healthier lifestyles and experienced less stress. Many noted that our society revolves so much more around families and they have the opportunity to really enjoy more time with their friends and family. New Zealanders are, they said, far more sociable than the Brits they left behind.
Well, there you go. I have always known it. Now the Brits confirm it.
